Graduates in Car Design at IED Turin have developed design proposals for compact minivans and SUVs in collaboration with Indian carmaker Mahindra.

The projects were developed as a thesis project by the students of the three-year post-diploma Course in Transportation Design – Car Design at the Istituto Europeo di Design (IED) in Turin, Italy.

The project was developed under the supervision of Course coordinator Fulvio Fantolino and in collaboration with Mahindra, the Indian group that recently acquired the Ssangyong brand and that is increasingly focused on developing transport solutions for the European market.

The brief asked students to focus on two types of vehicles: a Urban Minivan and a Compact SUV.

The project included a starting brand research, followed by the design research stage, during which students worked in groups to set out their respective design solutions, identifying solutions compatible with the brand requirements.

All of the proposals presented to the committee were developed comprehensively, both internally and externally, right up to the final stage involving the production of a 3D video of the concept cars.

The intention behind the decision to accompany each project with a virtual representation was to represent each design in its entirety, giving a transparent view of the vehicles and enabling viewers to see the openings.

Among all the works, the committee selected three concepts: the Shroom by Aldo Maria Sica; the Core by Denald Jasini and Michal Sebastian Ptak, and the Bee by Alex Vasil Imnadze.
