GM Salutes Its ‘Damsel’ Designers
General Motors presented ‘Designing Women’, a candid glimpse of the influence of women automotive designers within the automaker, on Monday at the Museum of the City of New York. It was held in conjunction with the ‘Cars, Culture and the City’ exhibition, on view at the museum until Aug. 8.
The first women designers worked for the company following World War II, in part as a publicity stunt. The decision did not always meet with universal support.
