The Multiplier is a project by Art Center College student Julien Bilodeau, who has created a temporary and expandable parking structure system, made of a network of identical trailer vehicles, which has the goal of increasing the available parking area.
Designed with the city of Los Angeles in mind, the system would be useful during special large-scale events, such as sports events or concerts.
Formally inspired to a "causality form language", the concept has a low-slung look, a forward leaning stance and visual expression of effort, similar to that of a strongman pulling a truck.
The side supports, located at the corners of the vehicle, originate and move away from the center of gravity, similarly to a man lifting a barbell loaded with weight plates.
The vehicle makes extensive use of aluminium and and carbon fiber components as well as reyclable materials. The Multiplier Project is part of “Astronauto” , a wider design study of the author, which addresses present day problems.
