The theme of the 2009 contest was “Volkswagen Urban”. Participants were asked to create city cars for the near future, focusing on driving pleasure, and low ecological and social impact while paying attention to the vehicles’ movement and to a possible production.

The four winning proposals were based on innovative technologies, explored the use of new recyclable materials, and emphasized the importance of respect for the environment.
Given the main focus on a urban-type vehicle, the main attention was not paid to aerodynamics or performance, but to the use of electric and clean engines, and to innovative features such as height and length-adjustable wheels aimed at increasing the agility in urban environments and facilitating parking maneuvers.
Other explored concepts were the exchange of information and data via internet and tha application of nanotechnology for both the interior and the exterior.

TheÂ winners stood out among about 200 students. The finalists have passed three selections, including a practical test at the VW facility and a final presentation to a jury of experts.
The ten previous editions of the Volkswagen Design Talento Contest have awarded and trained 39 designers who currently work at the VW studiosÂ inÂ Brazil, or at the company’s German headquarters.
