From the official Press Release:

Rally FighterTo date, 42 Rally Fighters have been reserved, all of which may be wrapped in Custom Car Skins. Eventually individual Rally Fighter customers will host their own Custom Car Skins competition in the Local Motors community- there will be many competitions like this in the future, but with specific requirements from our community of customers.

However, some customers will not want to host their own competition, and some will not know what they want. For them we will provide exciting options which may derive from this very competition. Help create a legacy and design a quintessential Rally Fighter Custom Car Skins and you may see it on the road.

Everyone is welcome to enter into the competition using any graphics software program, however winning designs completed in software other than vector based illustration programs will receive only a portion of the prize money.

If you choose to use any photographs or images in these designs, the photos must be at least 2000 x3000 pixels wide ( 8 Megapixels or more).

What is a Custom Car Skin?

Custom Car Skins are vinyl wraps applied to the vehicle body instead of automotive paint. Graphics can be printed on these skins using high quality printers and inks; the graphic print is protected with a laminated finish.

Some laminates are glossy, others are satin with some reflection/luster and others are completely matte. Once a design has been chosen, it is printed on huge sheets of vinyl that are 58 inches wide (147.4 cm) by about 10-12 (~3M) feet long.

These sheets are then cut up into multiple pieces and the vehicle is wrapped over the course of a few hours.
