Parajet SkyCar preview

British Parajet has presented the Skycar, a street legal vehicle equipped with a parawing and rear propellers. It can take off at 37 mph and fly for 200 miles at speeds up to 100 mph. The company is accepting pre-orders with first deliveries planned for late 2010.

Parajet SkyCarThe SkyCar by Parajet is one the first street-legal flying cars; it adopts the latest technology in high speed, self stabilising, parafoil design.

In "Road Mode", the SkyCar has rear wheel drive and independent suspension.

The engine, derived from the Yamaha R1, allows for a 0-100 km/h sprint in 4.2 seconds and a range of 400 miles.

Parajet SkyCarIn "Flight Mode" the 1,000 cc engine powers the rear-facing propellers which in combination with the "ParaWing" allow the SkyCar to take off at just 37 mph and in less than 200 meters.

The vehicle can fly up to 2,500 meters (8,000 feet). The wing shape is controlled via the pedals located in the foot well.

In the event of wing failure, connection system failure or collision, an emergency ballistic reserve parachute is deployed.

Parajet is planning to increase the flight speed up to 100 mph and to improve handling performance and safety.

The chassis has been designed to take hard “landings” whether from flying or driving off-road. Conversion from “road mode” to “fly mode” takes just three minutes.

Parajet SkyCar In "Road Mode", The ‘ParaWing’ can be folded into the boot of the SkyCar by the pilot alone.

The testing team is also preparing a 7,000 km voyage from London to Tombouctou: the 42-day expedition travelling through France, Spain and Morocco, and then across the Sahara by way of Mauritania and Mali, before returning home via Senegal.

Parajet is currently accepting pre-orders with a fully refundable deposit of £10,000.

The projected price is £50,000 with first deliveries expected for late 2010.
