The design theme for the 2016 projects
During the seventh edition of the TAD Master, the project topic assigned by Volkswagen Group Design has been “Autonomous Driving Cars for Inner & Inter City” focusing on Audi and Volkswagen brands.
The topic was particularly interesting because it gave students the chance of exploring some really innovative layouts for the interior design. It also created an opportunity to come up with a new category of vehicles for people who cannot drive.
Volkswagen BULL·E Concept
Since the 60’s, the Volkswagen T1, also known as Bulli, has been people’s favorite microbus. More than 50 years later, Master TAD students present the future of microbus: BULL•E.
Having in mind the old Volkswagen T1, the design of BULL•E reinterprets it in a modern but simple way, ensuring the typical design language of Volkswagen.
Adding flavours of camping, multiple seating configurations, smart materials technology to autonomous driving, BULL•E defines the future of family transport.
BULL•E is a blended between the past and the future and it’s not just a car, but your own second home in motion.
4senses is an autonomous concept car designed for a particular category of users: blind and visually impaired people.
Every design solution has been created to ensure a comfortable and safe driving, while sensorial experiences, involving four different senses, support the passengers traveling through the city and its most emblematic places.
Both the interior and the exterior design are characterized by a central symmetry: in this way it is enhanced the perception of bidirectional movement of the vehicle and the accepting passengers safely.
Design team: Lorenzo Marelli (Italy), Gustavo Bernardi Peiter (Brazil)
A fashion model arrives on the red carpet, people turn to look at her, photographers crowd for taking a picture: everything must be exclusive and scenographic.
This is the key point of the AudiRED design, a car who reveals the intention to impress the spectator leaving him the curiosity of how the passenger can get in/out the car.
The unusual proportions, especially the height from the ground, are born after numerous explorations of how to design a car that allows the access while standing.
The idea is to bring the red carpet inside the car making the fashion model the main subject while AudiRED is the scenery.
Audi Flò Concept
Inspired by the bonfire, the Audi Flò represents a new idea of transportation. The elliptical shape stimulates the passengers to interact each other, rediscovering the pleasure of conviviality.
The use of shape memory materials allows the transformation of seats to create a suitable atmosphere for travelling: a car for four or a lounge for two with a small footprint.
Blurring the lines between automotive and product design, The cabin wrapped by the car body creates a unique greenhouse. Eliminating the conventional notion of the front and rear, Audi Flò is designed to be bidirectional.
About Master TAD
The Specializing Master Course in Transportation & Automobile Design, offered by the Politecnico di Milano Design School and POLI.design, is devised jointly with Volkswagen Group Design.
Every year Volkswagen designers suggest to the students a project topic and supply specialist teaching contents. Volkswagen Group Design oversees design progress and selects the most promising students for internships at its style centers.
The Transportation and Automobile Design Master’s program is a pathway to excellence for those who seek scientifically rigorous training to meet the professional challenges that automakers’ design departments are facing up in this era of far-reaching change and radical innovation in the industry.
