Rinspeed brings Etos autonomous concept car to CES 2016

Rinspeed has evealed the first images and details on its latest concept, a self-driving hybrid sportscar equipped with a transforming interior and a drone.

For the first time the Swiss company is going to debut one of its projects outside the Geneva Show: at the CES 2016 in Las Vegas Rinspeed will unveil the Σtos Concept, the  22nd concept vehicle designed in-house.

The interior adapts to the particular driving situation: in autonomous mode, the steering wheel folds up and retracts completely into the dashboard. The two curved widescreen displays individually move closer to the occupants to provide a better view.

The advanced infotainment system uses the Harman Connected Car technologies: the system operates in a “thinking”, courteous and anticipatory manner.

The sporty hybrid car is also equipped with a drone that has its own landing pad on the rear end. The application of such a particular piece of equipment could range from delivering personal items to taking a video of the car traveling on the road and stream it live.

Among the announced features is a set of innovative surface finishes which are claimed to be “completely alien to car designers”.

Company founder Frank M. Rinderknecht commented: “The major and especially the disruptive innovations in future automotive engineering will come from the digital realm. That is why all major manufacturers and suppliers are now present at the CES Consumer Electronic Show.”
