Magna Steyr unveils MILA Plus Concept

At the Geneva Motor Show Magna Steyr will present the MILA Plus, a study of a plug-in hybrid sports car that combines lightweight construction, a hybrid drive train and an emotion-driven design.

The look of the MILA Plus is characterized by a flowing design that incorporates several mdoern trends, from the C-shaped elements on the front end iintegrting the light units and the air intakes, to the muscular shoulders that visually interect with the clean flanks, defined by a sharp character line.

The exterior mirrors are replaced by two cameras, which not only improve the car’s aerodynamics but provide wide-angle, high-resolution live images shown on two display screens inside the vehicle.

The structure of MILA Plus, which has an overall weight of 1,520kg, is based on an extruded aluminum space frame, a solution that in addition to weight savings offers a modular structural flexibility and the ability to easily accommodate different driveline configurations.

In the MILA Plus, the space frame integrates the high-voltage battery, which increases structural rigidity.

The outer skin is made of lightweight plastic body panels, chosen for their corrosion resistance and styling flexibility.

The modular body-in-white (BIW) concept also allows the use of components and systems from large series production, thus enabling improved manufacturing efficiency and flexibility for global automakers.

The manufacturing process of the BIW includes some innovative processes such as cold mechanical joining, a hybrid process more cost effective when compared to traditional welding solutions. This technique has been used by Magnaon other vehicles including the Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG and Aston Martin Rapide.

The interior uses renewable materials such as paneling components made of bioplastics and natural fibers.

The hybrid system features a three-cylinder gasoline engine coupled with two electric motors connected with the front axle, resulting in an all-wheel drive transmission. The overall power output is 200 kW/272 HP, while the maximum torque is 580 Nm.

The main perfomances are a 0-100 km/h sprint time of 4.9s, all-electric range of 75km and 32g/km CO2 emissions.
