Set to debut at the 2014 Paris Motor Show, the new Civic Type R is a production ready concept that anticipates the upcoming series model.
It features a turbocharged 2.0-liter i-VTE, developing over 280 PS, which makes this model the most extreme ever in the Type R line-up, including all generations of the Civic, plus the Integra, Accord and even the NSX.
While its predecessors were naturally aspirated, the new unit benefits from a turbocharger, boosting low-end power delivery.
The unit is Euro 6 compliant and is matched with a six-speed manual transmission.
The aggressive exterior design features an extreme stance, with a minimal ground clearance and enlarged wheel-arches with additional air openings.
The most distinctive design elements is the carbon fiber rear wing, which is completely integrated in the design of the tail lights.
The racing look is completed by the the front splitter and rear diffuser with double twin-pipe exhausts.
Among the new features is the new ‘+R’ button. Located to the side of the steering wheel, once pressed it activates ‘+R‘ mode for the most exhilarating driving experience.
In order to deliver the power, the new Civic Type R’s front suspension system includes an additional mechanical system called “Steer Axis”, which involves two supporting ‘kingpins’ that minimize torque steer and allows the driver to fully exploit the car’s driveability.
The new four-point Adaptive Damper System – specifically developed for the Civic Type R – automatically adjusts the front and rear suspension damping force stiffness in a split second, based on driving conditions.
The Civic Type R wil be built at Honda’s state-of-the-art plant in Swindon, UK, and will arrive in dealerships during 2015.
