Following the first edition of the contest, held in 2013, SAIC has launched a new Roewe·MG CUP challenge, open to university students from all over the world.
To celebrate MG 90th Anniversary, the 2014 edition of the contest asks to design a future sports car or a GT for the MG brand in the year 2025.
The deadline for entry submission is June 10th, 2014.
The jury panel will select the winning entries taking into consideration the following aspects:
- Relevance: The relevance of designer’s work and concept to topic shows designer’s understanding and control of work
- Innovation: Design proposal concepts need to be innovative and forward-looking. How to balance imagination and feasibility shows the real ability of designers.
- Aesthetic: The aesthetic presentation on design work shows a designer’s ability of beauty creation and shape control. This is a necessity for designers.
- Completion: A complete car design work does not only include exterior. We will also take the completion of work into consideration.
Prizes and Rules
The competition prizes consist of preliminary contest prizes and final prizes. The 15 preliminary contest prizes are selected from all submitted entries.
All the prize winners (overseas students are included) will be awarded a summer internship held in Shanghai, starting from early July 2014, where they will be able to further develop their project and build ten 1:4 clay models.
Accommodation, transportation and internship bursary will be provided by SAIC Group for all final-round candidates.
In addition to the internship, other prizes will be also available as follows.
The overall winner will receive a 1st class scholarship of ￥13000 (approx $2,090.00) and will be invited to SAIC’s UK Design Center in February 2015 for a 1-week UK design culture exchange.
Two second prize winners will receive a scholarship of ￥6000 each, and will be invited to UK Design Center for a 1-week UK design culture exchange (February 2015).
Three third prize winners will receive a scholarship of ￥5000.
Individual awards and additional scholarships will be assigned depending on the entries.
The Brief: MG 90 My Style
“MG90 not only pays homage to the classic brand but also looks to the future. The young and vibrant post-90s generation is bringing new look to each and every side of the society with their independence, confidence and creativity.
“The Internet and crossovers are unremittingly overturning traditions and conventions. The 90-year-old MG also yearns for brand-new design powers. Open, free and dreamy future MG “My Style” will be injected into the “Individual, Charisma, Creativity” MG spirit.”
