Audi confirms production of Q1 compact SUV

Audi has confirmed that the all-new Q1 model will be produced from 2016 at its plant in Ingolstadt, Germany. The sketch hints at a possible new design direction for the brand.

The all-new Q1 will be based on the modular transverse engine concept and will be the entry level model in the Q SUV family.

The so-defined “artist’s impression” sketch released by Audi showcases unusually sharp lines that could hint at a possible change in the styling direction of the brand.

The new model is part of he company’s growth strategy, which aims at expading the product range from the current 49 models to more than 60 by the year 2020, and to reach total unit sales of more than two million cars each year.

According to Audi, the production volume of SUV models will account for about 28 percent of the total this year and is planned to rise to more than 35 per cent by 2020.
