Like the Concept GC-PHEV, the Mitsubishi Concept XR-PHEV (X(cross)over Runner) is a plug-in hybrid electric vehicle that explores new possibilities for the SUV/MPV market.
The design uses a dynamic surface treatment with sharp lines and muscular wheelarches. The exterior is characterized by a wedge shaped profile, underlined by the sloped character line that runs along the flanks and flows into the tail lamps.
Among the distinctive details are the roof design – with integrated solar panels and rear spoiler – and the see-through A-pillars – a feature first seen on the Volvo SCC back in 2001.
The sporty look is underlined by the strong graphic contrast provided by the red/black color scheme with chromed accents – a theme also adopted for the futuric interior.
The XR uses a front engine, front-wheel drive layout and features a downsized 1.1-liter direct-injection turbocharged MIVEC engine, coupled with a lightweight, compact and high-efficiency motor and a high-capacity battery.
The show car will be unveiled by Mistubishi at the 2013 Tokyo Motor Show along with the Concept GC-PHEV and the Concept AR.
