IDSA in partnership with Inventables has launched a design contest that asks participants to create a car model for 3D printing. The finalists will compete in a ski-slope track at the IDSA Conference in August.
Participants are asked to design an “awesome car” using the supplied wheels and axle, and submitting a STEP file by August 12, 2013.
A jury will select the 10 best designs before the conference based on two criteria:
- use of unique attributes of 3D printing
- aesthetics: beauty / fun / thematic
The ten finalist projects will be 3D printed and brought to the IDSA Conference, where they will ride down a ski-jump track and fly – the launches will be shot with a slow-motion camera and posted on YouTube.
Three winners will be selected, one for each of three categories:
- best flight (distance / style)
- most spectacular crash
- best aesthetics
Each winner will be awarded a Up Mini 3D printer worth $899. The seven runners-up will receive a $100 gift card to use on Inventables.com.
