500 Group Supercar 3D Dash Challenge

500 Group Supercar 3D Dash Challenge

500 Group in partnership with GrabCAD has launched a design contest that asks to design a dashboard for an upcoming supercar. The deadline is January 9, 2013.

The supercar’s exterior design will be based on the results of the previous contest and the vehicle be developed under a General Motors special-projects supply agreement.

Supercar Concept by Darren McKeageThe dash gauge is an LCD TFT touch screen, so participants will have to base their design on a Photoshop PSD layout provided.

Since the dash is a monitor it provides the opportunity to create 3D content on the flat screen. The contest brief asks to:

  • create a 3D ‘holographic’ experience with a sense of layers, depth and floating 3 dimensional elements for the user
  • create the simplest, purest functional dash possible, ‘less is more’.
  • use color and animation for the purpose of conveying functional information during operation of the dash

There are six prizes available. The first three winners will respectively receive $800, $500 and $300, plus some GrabCAD gadgets.

The deadline for submission is January 9, 2013. For more information visit the contest’s official page.
