BMW has revealed the Touring estate version of the new 3 Series, characterized by increased length and wheelbase and a more spacious luggage compartment.

Compared to the 3 Series Sedan, the new 3 Series Touring has a wheelbase increased by 50 mm and a length increased by 97 mm.

This allowed to offer extra room for passengers, to achieve a 35-liter increase in luggage capacity (up to 495 liters) and to balance the overall proportions.

BMW 3 Series Touring - Design SketchThe design of the 3 Series Touring is identical to that of the Sedan as far back as the B-pillar.

The side view is characterized by a long, slightly curving roofline, a steeply raked D-pillars, and DLOs with a subtly wedge-shaped geometry.

The “Hofmeister kink” counter-swing at the foot of the D-pillar contributing to the dynamic tension.

The rear area is defined by horizontal lines and L-shaped lights set far to the outer edges accentuate the broad face of the wheels and the 48-millimeter wider track.

The rear lights extend well into the sides and integrate two bars of LEDs which allow a slim light design and ensure a recognizable lighting signature.

The increased dimensions allowed to offer additional 17 millimeters to the rear passengers’ knee room and nine millimeters to the headroom.

The loading sill is just 62 centimeters from the ground and integrates a stainless steel protective strip. The loading area can be equipped with an adaptive attachment system with variable plug-in elements for the compartment floor.

The BMW 3 Series Touring will be offered with the same choice of trim levels of the Sedan: the new Sport Line, Luxury Line and Modern Line equipment packages. An optional M Sport package will also be available from launch.
