The Mazda CX-5 is the first production model to adopt the company’s new KODO design language.
First previewed by the Minagi Concept, the compact crossover is equipped with a wide range of new technologies grouped under the name SKYACTIV.
These include a lightweight body and chassis, new gasoline and diesel engines, and manual and automatic transmissions.
The exterior design aims at conveying SUV-like sturdiness while at the same time expressing a sense of vitality and agility.
The front end is characterized by the new signature wing grille, while the sculptured body sides and front fenders contribute to a sense of power.
At the rear the fenders contrast with the edgy form and sharply raked back window. The slanting A-pillar bases contribute to the well-planted stance, and offer the driver a better field of view.
The interior features solid shapes with a light sporty touch and a refined look.
Below we report an official video from the 2011 Tokyo Motor Show with comments by the CX-5 Chief Designer Masashi Nakayama and Program Managers Hideaki Tanaka and Susumu Niinai.
