The sketches were presented yesterday during the #SwedeSpeak Twitter Chat, where Chris Benjamin – Design Director at Volvo Monitoring and Concept Center (VMCC) – has answered the questions asked by participants regarding the design of the company’s models.
These fun sketches showcase a possible reinterpretation of the historical P1800 model, that this year is celebrating its 50th anniversary.
The last model, the 1800ES introduced in 1972, was a three-door shooting-brake and its final design was chosen after two prototypes built by Sergio Coggiola and Pietro Frua.
Among the iconic design elements was the all-glass rear tailgate of the 1800ES, which inspired many Volvo designers and was later adopted on the 480 and on the current C30 model.
