For the LA Design Challenge Hyundai Design North America has created two vehicle concepts: an MPV called Stratus Sprinter and an airship named DB Atlant, both inspired by a vampire story.

For the “Hollywood Movie” theme of the 2011 edition of the LA Design Challenge, Hyundai designers have taken inspirations from vampire stories, that recently made a comeback thanks to the success of novels such as the Twilight series.

Hyundai Stratus Sprinter Concept PosterThe background story created for the project, titled “Countess of Siberia”, is woven around the deeds of Elena, an immortal Countess born in 1829 from vampire parents.

During her fight for freedom and justice she uses two vehicles, the Hyundai Stratus Sprinter MPV and the DB Atlant airship, which were inherited from her parents and slowly subjected to countless modifications and improvements made during her immortal life.

Both the vehicles “have a magical stealth force that renders them invisible during daylight”, which helps the Countess traveling across dangerous places.

The airship can transport the Stratus Sprinter locked with a latch system in a cargo bay for long-distance journeys.

When approaching the mission destination, it releases the car, which gains speed through a catapult system and glides down to the earth thanks to the integrated wings, reminiscent of a vampire cape.

Hyundai Stratus Sprinter Concept Both the MPV and the airship use a futuristic design language with flowing surfaces.

Interestingly, the airship – through not fully developed in 3D – seems to better fit into the background story thanks to the worn, multi-material look and the retro-styled elements such as the large front propeller and the rear boat-inspired hand rail.

On the other side, the sleek and minimal design of the Stratus-Sprinter makes it a rather modern concept and appears built from scratch rather than a carriage subjected to over two centuries of changes.

Background Story

Hyundai Stratus Sprinter Concept Born in Moscow in 1829 of vampire parents, Countess Elena, with her super human senses and unique abilities to travel after dark, became a member of the Soviet spy network during the second World War.

After the war, she set out on a mission to stop the negative effects of communism around the globe.

Traveling to the most dangerous places in the world, the Countess knows she can not be seen by anyone in her fight to protect freedom and justice.

The Countess uses two vehicles, the Hyundai Stratus Sprinter multi-purpose vehicle (MPV) and the DB Atlant Airship that serves as her home base and MPV carrier.

Passed down from her parents, she has been upgrading and modifying features throughout her immortal life.

The MPV can travel any road due to its high ground clearance and has light combat capabilities. The Airship stays afloat and hidden high in the sky to avoid detection.

Both vehicles have a magical stealth force that renders them invisible during daylight, only to reappear after dark.

Follow the Countess on her fight in the on-going war of Communism in Hyundai Design North America’s action thriller “Countess of Siberia.”
