Designing for the Future Competition

Ford Motor Company Fund and Lawrence Technological University have launched the “Designing for the Future” Competition, a contest open to students that offers over $75,000 in scholarships. The deadline is December 11st 2011.


“Designing for the Future” is a just-launched car design competition organized by Ford and Lawrence Tech, the technological university based in Southfield, MI.

Designing for the Future Automotive proposal exampleThe contest asks participants to create a vehicle or a product for the year 2025 that redefines the meaning of “American Luxury” for 20 – 30 years old customers.

The competition is open to high school seniors or transfer students. The prizes consist in over $75,000 worth of scholarships for Lawrence Tech’s Transportation Design or Industrial Design programs.

The submission deadline is December 11st 2011. The winners will be invited and announced on Sunday January, 8, 2012 at the MAIN Event at the 2012 Detroit International Auto Show.

Contest Brief

Designing for the Future Product proposal exampleUse images and keywords to create a composition of the research and customer background. Using this research, find an inspirational image that will help you design and develop one of the concepts below for the year 2025.

  • Track A: Design a halo vehicle that establishes the new definition of American luxury relevant to the customer environment & lifestyle.
  • Track B: Identify products that would appeal to luxury customers, such as: shoes, apparel, fashion, furniture, luggage, pens, watch, etc. Design the product/s emphasizing the brand character of American luxury.
