Presented by Volkswagen at the 2011 Frankfurt Motor Show among six different Up! concepts, the buggy Up! takes inspiration from the original buggy, born in California in the 1960s.
This two-seater show car features an open layout with a reinforced structure. Compared to the production Up!, the Buggy Up! is slightly longer (3,584 mm) and wider (1,672 mm, +31 mm) but significantly lower at 1,288 mm (-190 mm).
In addition, the hood is much flatter, and the open side sills contribute to the open air driving experience.
The dynamic stance is underlined by the minimalistic overhangs and the large 18-inch alloy wheels fitted with 205 / 40 tires.
The trunk lid is constructed of two pieces; the main part of the lid lifts upward like a classic trunk lid, but the section above the bumper folds down, like the tailgate on a pick-up.
The interior is completely waterproof; flooding is prevented by drains in the vehicle floor, by the open side sills and even by water drains in the neoprene coated shell seats.
In case of rain it is possible to stretch a sail between the window frames and the roll bar.
The water resistant infotainment system has an iPod/iPhone dock and can be removed along with its active loudspeakers so that it can be used as a sound system for parties on the beach.
