Unveiled at the Shanghai Auto Show, the DS5 is the third model in the distinctive DS line, following the DS3 and the DS4.
The DS5 is the first Citroën equipped with the HYbrid4 diesel hybrid technology, that in this version delivers 200 hp with total CO2 emissions of 99g/km.
The design is based on the C-SportLounge concept, presented in 2005.
The exterior has compact dimensions (4.52m long, 1.85m wide) and flowing lines, with a sleek profile and muscular wheel arches.
The front end is characterized by the large air intakes, a chromed grille and new LED headlights.
Among the distinctive elements are the chrome-finished ‘sabre’ inserts that stretch from the top of the headlights to the side windows frames.
The rear design has arrow-shaped tail-lights and horizontal lines that underline the car’s stance while the large chromed tail pipes stand out against the dark surfaces of the rear bumper.
The five-seater interior is an evolution of the design proposed with the DS4, with a stronger presence of curved, tight lines.
The driver-focused cockpit features a color Head-Up Display and a coupé-like driving position with a near-vertical steering wheel.
The atmosphere is defined by the contrast between the brown leather with the aluminum trims and the red/white ambient lighting.
The distinctive ‘watchstrap’ seat upholstery remains as a signature touch of the DS line.
The 2005 Citroën C-SportLounge Concept |
Interesting design, very similar – and in some way even more concept-like – to the original C-SportLounge.
In general, I’m still not convinced about the sharp kinks on the sides, I think they somehow mess up the reflections and can look like dents.
Also, I think they didn’t choose the right car color and lighting setup for the shots, the chromed “swords” can be barely seen…
good design but I think the first one (sportloung) was better because its simplicity, the new one is little boring and too complicated.
I agree that color and illustrations in these images was not very successfull especially the flares and feeling of fog.
But, overall I think citroen is very successfull in it’s design revolution with the new DS line, although I can say it may needs a specialist to know which DS4 and which DS5 as they have similar look in many point and it may be just the size is the difference.
But finally I’m so impressed by the color and trim work for the interior, which unfortunately not very clear cause of the bad quality of the images.
