Presented at the 2011 Seoul Motor Show, the Hyundai Blue2 Concept (codenamed HND-6) is a design study of a mid-size sedan powered by a fuel cell electric system, with a flowing design and a futuristic interior.

Hyundai Blue2 ConceptDeveloped under Hyundai’s new brand direction, “New Thinking. New Possibilities”, Blue2 (codenamed HND-6) is a mid-size FCEV that combines eco-friendly features with futuristic technology.

The name Blue2 (read as “Blue square”) is a combination of the company’s sub eco-brand ‘Blue Drive’ and the number 2 from H2, the symbol of Hydrogen.

The Concept is powered by a fuel cell electric system that delivers an output of 90kW and a fuel efficiency of 34.9km/liter.

The exterior design is based on the ‘Intersected Flow’ concept. A group of character lines originate from the badge area above the front grille, run along the hood and connect with the flowing surfaces of the side cameras – complemented by a roof camera.

The look of the show car is characterized by the contrast the white-colored body and the dark tones of the grilles, the DLOs with a wraparound effect and the glossy stripes that run along the sills and rise up to connect with the rear of the side windows.

To improve the overall efficiency, the Blue2 is equipped with low-resistance tires and aerodynamic  wheels.

The interior is characterized by a futuristic and eco-friendly look, with asymmetrically-designed dashboards and doors and wide, comfortable seats.

The instrument cluster and the center fascia have been combined using a Transparent Organic Light Emitting Diode (TOLED) monitor and ultra-light tempered glass, called Gorilla Glass.

The eco-friendly feel is enhanced by the use of antibacterial leather with leaf-shaped patterns, called ‘eco-graphic perforation’.

The infotainment system is operated by a Motion Sensor Moustick, a haptic wheel and motion sensor that respond to the driver’s touch and hand movements.

The backs of the front seats integrate two tablets for the rear passengers’ enjoyment. The cabin also features a cluster ionizer that freshens the air inside the vehicle.

Ok, I can see others commented on this design as it looks like volvo, yes, I agree a lettle but I just wanna explain something:

This design is originally hyundai but they wanted it to be a freak more than a car so they forced some of the BMW vision effecient dynamics character, they used the same complex lines which BMW used to use for the hood, mixxing that with a main front grill back to AUDI’s, even in the interior a blend of concepts back to many brands which express the feeling that this is a freak not a car, but we have to admit that the ugly rear is originally hyundai

Actually, they have to admit that Europeans are still on the lead for genuine automotive design! Japanese copied, I think it was Peugeot, with their first DATSUN in the 1950s, now its the Koreans. I believe they can do better with an influence of their own very rich cultural background.

I don’t think everyone is really copying each other… you see, in the today’s design studios, there’s a mix of designers from different backgrounds and culture, with different design approach and or solutions.
But from the moment I laid eyes on this concept, it’s a reminiscent of the Peugeot 3008 fascia and a mix of other already out-there cars- nothing original.
