Gumpert Tornante preview

At the 2011 Geneva Motor Show Gumpert will reveal the Tornante, a mid-engine sportscar designed by Italian studio Touring Superleggera. It will be produced as a 2012 model.

The Tornante (hairpin turn in Italian) will be first revealed as a static style model and is expected to be less extreme than the Apollo supercar, while sharing the same 4.2-liter V8 engine, delivering 700 hp.

The two-seater was developed by Touring Superleggera, hired by Gumpert with the task of adding elegance, space and comfort, while respecting respecting aerodynamics, ground effect, engine and brakes ventilation.

According to the first information, the design will feature a rear end with “innovative proportions” and a gull-wing opening system for the doors and the wide rear hood.

The Tornante is based on a light chrome-molybdenum steel space frame with carbon fiber monocoque, combined with composite body panels.
