Design Story: the Fiat Uno Cabrio Concept

The exclusive design story of the Fiat Uno Convertible Concept, a design study of a two-seater roadster created by Fiat Brazil to explore the possibilities offered by the new Uno model.

Fiat Uno Cabrio Design SketchDeveloped by the Fiat Brazil Styling Center, the Uno Convertible Concept is the first vehicle based on the two-door bodyshell of the new Uno – in turn based on the Panda – that will be soon available on the market.

With the project, Fiat designers have explored the possibilities offered by a modern, advanced platform.

With the removal of the roof, and therefore part of body rigidity, the prototype had to get reinforcements in various parts of its structure, in order maintain the required torsional stiffness and – consequently – the comfort and safety levels.

The engine is the same as the Punto T-Jet, a turbocharged 1.4 liter unit delivering 152 hp, The top speed is close to 200 km/h.

The final concept car was revealed at the 2010 Sao Paolo Motor Show on last October 2010.

Exterior Design

Fiat Uno Cabrio Design SketchThe exterior design is characterized by newly-designed bumpers that provide a more powerful appearance.

The front end features large air intakes and a pronounced spoiler.

At the same time it maintains the “irreverence” of the rounded squares featured in the New Uno.

The taillights and brake lights – originally positioned on the back of the head restraints – are illuminated by LEDs, complementing the look of the car.

To match the new sporty appearance, the car adopts 17-inch wheels with low-profile tires.

Interior Design

Fiat Uno Cabrio Interior Design SketchInspired by the original concept, the interior has received a number of specific components, such as the speaker cover, climate controls, vents, pedals and a chrome fire extinguisher.

Also alluding to classic racing cars models are the three-spoke steering wheel, the metal shifter and the clamshell seats with four points safety belts.

The dashboard and center console were redesigned to incorporate new instruments: the turbo pressure, positioned near the instrument panel, and the oil pressure and fuel gauges, located on the center console – all with new graphics.
