    Prepare major design layouts, including responsibility for design calculations to achieve functional results. Work is highly creative, with wide latitude for independent judgment under general supervision. May instruct and/or have assistance of other designers and drafters. Work duties involve a definite degree of skill, accuracy and coordination.

    - Prepares major design layouts of complex units, mechanisms, and/or complete products
    - Makes all necessary design computations
    - Works with designers, layout drafters and detailers to achieve completed design
    - Prepares general specifications
    - Proposes new design concepts
    - Coordinates input from internal/external customers to better understand customer needs and/or perceptions
    - Keeps abreast of current product developments and trends in areas of expertise
    - Actively identifies new areas for learning and takes advantage of learning opportunities

    Design components and sub-systems in the context using UG/NX
    - Ensure communication between system and sub-system groups
    - Resolves technical design conflicts
    - Ensures adherence to design standards and processes
    - Advises Supervisor / Designers of project status and timing
    - Assists in establishing design completion dates
    - Designs systems and sub-systems
    - Adheres to employee guidelines for conduct

    Qualifications

    Basic Required

    - In-depth understanding of products and manufacturing operations
    - Well developed understanding of materials and components
    - Oral and written communications skills
    - Interpersonal skills to work effectively with others
    - Basic knowledge of algebra, geometry, trigonometry, and computer graphics
    - High level of analytical ability where problems are complex
    - Appropriate interpersonal styles and communication methods to work effectively with business partners to meet mutual goals required
    *
    Associate Degree in Science in Drafting/Design or equivalent experience
    - Knowledge of Engine/Vehicle Architecture
    - In depth knowledge of GD&T, tolerance analysis
    - Excellent written and oral communication skills to be able to document design processes
    - In-depth knowledge of Design tools (UG/NX, TeamCenter)
    - Knowledge of manufacturing processes
    - Position related experience in engineering design – 10 years plus
    - Relevant auto industry experience required with expertise in engines related to – Castings, stampings, plastic injection, die casting, tubing, packaging, configuration, engine roll, variation, vehicle background, and problem solving

    Basic Preferred
    - Bachelor’s degree preferred.
    - Experience working with Analysis to improve designs
    - Knowledge of computer software as it pertains to engineering preferred
    - Engine Component design (Design experience in Engine components – Engine Cooling Systems or Exhaust Systems. Turbo and Intake Manifolds preferred)

    Education and Training

    - Associates Degree required or equivalent training, plus additional training such as that acquired in one to two years of post-high school drafting training or equivalent experience
    - Training in use and maintenance requirements of computer graphics
