The new MG6

MG has unveiled the firs official photos of the production MG6 model, a five seat sporting fastback aimed at capturing the character of the brand with a dynamic design. It will go on sale in China and Europe during 2010.

MG6MG is back and going international: the iconic British brand is hoping to fulfil its global sales potential as a sports orientated volume producer.

Knowing that satisfying the hunger of global demand will need more resources than the existing UK operation has lead to the development of a new manufacturing facility in Lingang, China.

The new real estate will see production for the world’s largest automotive market, start before the year is up.

First out of the new garage will be the MG6, a five seat sporting fastback that debuted at the Guangzhou Auto show in China.

It’s the first all new vehicle from the company since the MGF of 1995 and up until now we have only seen concepts and sketches from the UK Design and Engineering team, but, this is the production ready reality that will go on sale in China from January and in European spec later in 2010.

MG6The MG6, aims to capture the character of the brand, with a dynamic front end and surfacing that sweeps out from the modernised octagon MG badge.

Indeed the headlights relate well with the form of the emblem, before wrapping round into the fashionably high beltline along the sides of the car. While the lower front inlets also add to a feeling of restrained aggression.

The inverted crease to the beltline becomes more defined towards the rear, creating a notably distinct highlight to the pseudo shoulder where it meets the C pillar.

This together with the dramatic rearwards slope of the roofline, compared with most modern hatchbacks, proves more dynamic and gifts it credibility as a fastback.

The lower sills include flowing highlights that plant the car to the ground, whilst enhancing the forward stance.

To finish off this dynamic, by lifting the rear further still, is the wrap over rear lights that continue the flow to the backend.

Overall, the faceted surfacing and detailing helps keep the exterior looking quite athletic and preserving the brands sporting heritage.

MG6 Interior MG6 Front LogoEnergy in the interior is much harder to come by with a considerably more formal arrangement to the design, especially around the dashboard and instrument panel. Only the subtle flashes of aluminium trim and sports seats suggest the car is ascribed with performance merit.
