The Opel Siderium was the winner in the Best Conceptual Interior category at the Interior Motives Design Awards 2008. It was designed by Vinicius Barbosa Crepaldi and Tiago Aiello Tomé De Souza from UNESP - the Universidad Estadual Paulista, Brazil.
The Opel Siderium was developed based in projections of what tends to be symbol of luxury in the future.
The name comes from the Latin word Desiderium, which means Desire.
The concept is targeted to potential new luxury consumers: 20 to 35 years old people, independent and well-connected.
The exterior tries to bring elements that represent luxury: soft curves, provocative lights, textures and fancy accessories.
The interior is focused on versatility, personalization of internal space, concerns with environment and the creation of atmospheres that would fit to the most different usages.
The seats offer a wide range of possibilities: they are formed by two different parts, the structure and the external layer.
The structure is made of 5 mobile parts and gives the seat its shape, which can be settled according to user’s necessity, while the superficial layer of stretchable material is attached to the structure and can adapt to any position.
The seats also be arranged in different configurations, for example allowing passengers to seat in front of each other.
The central console can become a small table, which is designed to hold and keep refrigerated cups and bottles, and the athmosphere is completed by the interior lighting.
The interior console ends up in an up curve that goes out of the vehicle and follows the top glass until the front wind-shield, creating a single part., thus exploring the idea of blending interior and exterior surfaces.
The doors are made of tempering glass that can changed in its external layer color by the users. All screens and lights (including external) use low energy consumption OLED (Organic LED) cells.

The choice of colors was aimed at suggesting sensual but at the same time comfortable occasions and feelings. The seats had received an organic and soft texture while the panel and other trims received an inorganic texture, to cause a subliminal curiosity and desire of touch.
Energy is collected by micro-photovoltaic cells which are mixed in car paint and it is therefore supplied to four in-wheels electric motors or stored in the onboard batteries.
