After entering India 3 years ago through a joint venture with Mahindra & Mahindra for the production and distribution of Logan, Renault has inaugurated the Design India studio in Mumbai, which was first announced back in July 2007.

The inauguration was attended by Senior Vice President of Design Patrick Le Quement, Renault India managing director Sylvain Bilaine and Head of Renault Design India Patrick Lecharpy.

According to the official release, the "Renault Design India is the first real design studio by any automobile manufacturer in India.
"As such, its role is to go from the initial design to the production of mock-ups and prototypes, including the digital design phase. Renault Design India is the sixth addition to Renault's international network of satellite design centres."

The new center will work in collabortion with the toher five worldwide design centers, located in Paris, Kihueng (Korea), Barcelona, Sao Paolo (Brazil) and Bucharest (Romania).
Counting 16 employees, likely to increase to 20-25 in the next future, the Renault India Design Studio will work on projects for Mahindra Renault aimed at the local Indian market, such as the ULC (Ultra Low Cost) car developed in partnership with Nissan and Bajaj.
