Fiat UK has announced the 'Smiles per Hour' design competition, open to UK residents. Participants are asked to present a vehicle prototype focused on new enjoyable ways of travelling. The first prize is a £50,000 cheque.

With the Smiles per Hour design competition Fiat is asking to present original vehicle prototypes - not just cars - that propose new way of travelling.

Fiat Smiles per Hour - website screenshotThe event is free and open to UK residents above 18 and the entry submission deadline is 22 August 2008.

The winner will receive a £50,00 check in order to enhance his prototype, which will be showcased at Fiat's showroom in London.

The design of the prototype must be tailored around new ways of getting from A to B and making personal transport as enjoyable as possible.

In order to be selected as a finalist, prototypes must be ready to be tested, and capable of being used by the public, by 1st September 2008.

In the final phase the five selected finalists will be supported by Fiat's engineering team, and the prototypes will be tested on the roads of London.

The winner will be announced during the pitch night on 25 September 2008.
