Volkswagen 2028 Concepts
Volkswagen has launched the volkswagen2028.com website which offers the brand’s vision of the automotive world 20 years from now . Three concept cars are presented – One, Ego and Room, each one designed to suit different needs.
The www.volkswagen2028.com website is a virtual manifesto of the brand’s strategy and design, where VW’s developers and designers offer an insight into the automotive world of tomorrow.
Many ideas and technologies are explored including:
- Sustainability: through the use of technologies such as
second-generation fuels, downsized engines,
CCS engines and hybrid powertrains. -
Networked mobility: future cars will be in permanent dialogue with other vehicles and the traffic infrastructure. Information exchanged will help to avoid traffic jams, prevent accidents
and find a parking space at any time. - Accident-free driving: a number of
sensors scan the car’s surroundings and bring information to the driver via innovative interfaces - Custom-made cars: many design and configuration options will be available thanks to colour-changing paints and panels,
interiors with flexible configurations and a range of variable vehicle concepts
All these visions take shape with three virtual concept cars: One (a compact personal mobility vehicle), Ego (a 2-seat coupé) and Room (a living-room family car).
All of the three concept cars feature olographic 3D interfaces with functions controlled by gestures instead of physical contact.
Flavio Manzoni, Head of Creative Design, VW Group explains "Our intention is to give a realistic representation of the future world. It’s a sort of virtual manifesto of the Volkswagen’s future strategy and design. [...] We consider this as a part of a strategic mission. [...]
Every next VW concept car has to be considered a step into the future."
Jochen Sengpiehl, Head of Marketing, Volkswagen Passenger Cars brand, explains "Our designers and developers have created three innovative vehicle concepts exclusively for this Webspecial in order to illustrate the automotive world of tomorrow. We have called them ‘one’, ‘ego’, and ‘room.’ They give an idea of the shape that our visions of the future could take.
"They demonstrate how the cars of the future can communicate with traffic lights, how holographic displays in the cockpit can assist the driver and how we can generate even more driving pleasure and still keep our cars emission-free,"
