General Motors has opened a digital vehicle design studio in Bangalore, India. The new facility will focus on products for the Indian market as well as contributing to the development of various global projects.

The design studio, located inside the GM Technical Centre-India (GMTCI), near Bangalore, will employ about 70 people by the end of 2007.

According to GM vice-president of Global Design Ed Welburn the new facility will work on projects India's domestic market, and collaborate with the company's overseas studios on other global projects.

It will support a global design strategy and thanks to clay milling capabilities, supporting equipment and virtual reality technologies, it will become a centre of expertise for interior trim and component surfacing, and will contribute to the mid-cycle enhancement of existing models.

The new design studio in Bangalore is GM's eleventh styling center worldwide.
