Started by Valencia-based Sure Design in 2006 as an internal project, the Toyota 2000 SR concept was created to showcase the company's capabilities and design skills.
The initial brief was to create a hybrid, lightweight 2-seater coupe with a "delicate surface treatment".
The hybrid powertrain includes a V6 3.5 liters engine with a max output of 610 hp and capable of running on bio-fuel.
This internal combustion engine is coupled with a rear-wheel transmission, while a front-mounted electric motor is capable of independently driving the front wheels.
"The 2000 SR silhouette is defined by its expansive hood, which houses the engines.
"The wrap-around cockpit and wheel arches sit on voluminous sides, which give it a robust aspect. An almost technical appearance is integrated in the compact, fluid and aerodynamic body.
"The roof falls off abruptly and the rear of the car, shortened to improve aerodynamic efficiency, ends with a single piece. The wheel rims, light and technical, seem to move even when stationary."

The uniquely styled doors provide access to the passenger area and boot, while the glass surfaces area has been kept to a minimum, both for aestethics and for weight savings.

1967-1970 Toyota 2000 GT (Source: Wikipedia)
The Toyota 2000GT was unveiled in 1965 at the Tokyo Motor Show. It is usually considered the first Japanese Supercar.
It was produced from 1967 until 1970 in a limited series of 336 units.
"It revolutionized the automotive world's view of Japan, formerly seen as a producer of imitative and stodgily practical vehicles, and showed that the Japanese makers could produce a sports car to rival those of Europe" (Source: Wikipedia).
The exterior styling had some reminescences of the Jaguar E-Type. Among the main design elements were the aluminum bodywork and pop-up headlights with plexiglas covers.
