The "Audi MAX4" project is the third one presented by Scuola Politecnica di Design in partnership with Audi, following the "Lamborghini Espada" (2004-2005) and the "Audi Avant 2015" (2005-2006).

The brief for the 2006-2007 academic year final projects was to develop a sporty and stylish compact car with a total length of less than 4 meters.

Eleven students from the Master in Transportation Design have created seven scale models, under the supervision of Marco Bonetto, master coordinator, and a team that included Alessandro Maccolini and Mario Favilla and Audi designers Gary Telaak e Ingo Von Bargen.

Audi Max4 – The Projects

The Audi A1 by Jacek Peplowski (Poland) is a mix between an urban coupe and a compact crossover. The clean side shapes are crossed by sloped lines that add a dynamic and sporty look. Among the design cues are the muscular wheelarches, the minimal overhangs, the panoramic windshield and the door handles, integrated in the upper side of the high waistline.

The Concept by Jay Wen-Chieh Wen (New Zealand) makes use of tense lines and acute angles – for instance in the headlights and the glass surfaces contours. The design language is characterized by strong chromatic contrasts and by the new double-framed grille. The result is a dynamic car for young and individualist drivers.

The Audi Leap by Berk Keskin (Turkey) is a compact and agile city car. The exterior puling-forward lines remind of an animal ready to jump.

The Concept by Francesco Carbini, Camillo Morande (Italy) and Mario Ortiz (Mexico) is a compact coupe with a strong off-road appearance.

The concept by Manuel Borrayo and Carlos Ron Magana (Mexico) is a city car capable of extreme performances.

The simple and strong lines are combined with a rrow-like side profile and a front end with the typical Audi’s single frame grille.

Audi MAX4 Project - De SilvaThe Audi S1, designed by Tzolt Tarnok (Hungary) and Maurizio Trottoli (Italy) is a typical compact urban car with a design characterized by sporty styling cues inspired by Audi’s S-Series models, such as the front air intakes, muscular wheelarches minimal overhangs and imposing bumper.

The Audi Rone Concept by Boguslaw Paruch (Poland) is an urban compact wagon characterized by nearly-flat surfaces and volumes defined by straight lines interesections. The main design features are the sharp edges and the chromatic treatment: the ample front grille – created "by subtraction" – integrates the headlights at its edges; the rear sections of the side windows have a lowered bottom edge that increases visibility for the rear passengers. The interior is focused on customization and flexibility.
