Interview by Furkan Bilal İYİN
Note: This is the second of a series of interviews to automotive and industrial designers made by Furkan Bilal İYİN (TurkDesignStudio), and authorized by the author for republication on Car Body Design.
Tommy Forsgren is 32 years old. He has a Bachelor in fine arts of product Design and a Master in fine arts of Transportation Design, from the Institute of Design, Umeå University, Sweden.
He is currently Senior Designer at Munich-based DesignworksUSA, BWM group product and transportation design subsidiary. Previous professional experiences include exterior design works for Porsches R&D center in Weissach, Germany.

When did you start designing?
First I did not know about industrial design and had my mind set on architecture but at around the age of 19 a friend tipped me about the Institute of Design in Umea so I starded to prepare my portfolio to get in.

How did you develop your style?
Mixing up new techniques 3D with a traditional artistic touch.

Any big designs coming up?
Yes, worked on a 60 foot sailing yacht the last years should come out soon.
What type of rendering do you like most? Marker or photoshop rendering? and why?
I like to do ballpoint sketches on vellum and then ad some grey scale markers, then if the sketches are nice enough I scan them in and color them on my Cintiq in Photoshop.
What do you think about Murat Gunak, the head-designer of VW? Do you like VW's design strategy? (you know,Walter Silva is the head designer now)
I don't know how involved he is in the different projects.
I think VW should have gone a more geometric direction some years ago like the Microbus concept, I do like the Touareg alot.
The other brands under VW such as Audi, Lamborghini, Bentley, Bugatti etc are doing just fine.
