Sun Red Solar Motorbike Concept
Spanish automotive engineering company Sun Red is developing a solar-powered urban motorbike. The project has been unveiled at the Barcelona International Auto Show where it has received a "Best Innovative Technology" award.
The goal of SunRED’s "Moto Solar Urbana" (Urban Solar Motorbike) project is to present a working prototype in the next future and to develop a production model.
The concept is powered by a rear-mounted in-wheel electric motor. In order to maximize the stored energy, the exterior body is made of movable solar panels.

When the vehicle is moving they are gathered in the rear end, saving space for passengers and lowering the center of gravity.
When the vehicle is stopped the panels extend to form a clamshell with a total area of 3.1 square meters.
The stored energy allows for a maximum range of about 20 km at 50 km/h. All the different functions can be accessed and controlled via a 6.4" LCD screen.
