The sedan version has a rear overhang 165 mm longer than the 5-door hatchback model.
The interior has benefited from a wheelbase which is 95 mm longer than its predecessor.
The access to the cabin is made easy by the larger door openings, which are enabled through new sash construction, with the rear doors opening 75 degrees.
The dashboard integrates a large navigation screen, positioned on the top of the center console.
The aluminum-look insets in the center panels and door trim underline the sporty look, and the new double-wishbone rear suspension makes room for a wider and deeper luggage compartment.
While maintaining the model's signature features (Symmetrical AWD (All-Wheel drive) and Horizontally-Opposed boxer engine), the new Impreza showcases a redesigned chassis, body construction and drivetrain, as well as substantially improved overall performance.
Both the normally aspirated 2.5-liter SOHC unit and the 2.5-liter DOHC turbocharged engine feature a new intake manifold, for improved mid to low-end torque and fuel efficiency.
The body makes use of high tension steel and reinforced joints which, in combination with the new Ring-Shaped Reinforcement Frame Body Structure (with front and rear crumple zones), contributes to improve the body rigidity and the crashworthiness behaviour.

The suspension system features a newly designed double-wishbone rear suspension.
Transmissions, both manual and automatic, were modified for faster, more responsive shifting and better maneuverability.
Safety features include Vehicle Dynamics Control (VDC) and a collapsable safety pedal.
