In 2005, Monash Art & Design established Australia's only clay modelling studio for students specialising in automotive design.
Built as a result of the Partners for the Advancement of Collaborative Engineering Education (PACE) corporate alliance involving Monash, General Motors (represented in Australia by Holden), Electronic Data Systems, Sun Microsystems and software provider UGS, the studio has helped build a close working relationship between Holden and Monash.
Under the tutelage of industry designers, Monash Industrial Design graduates have quickly become some of the most highly sought in the country and Monash Art & Design now offers the leading transport design program in Australia.
Since manufacturing the first all-Australian car, the 48-215 (FX) in 1948, Holden has produced more than six million vehicles and now employs over 9,500 people Australia-wide. It is part of General Motors since 1931.
