The rankings are the result of the online voting process, which counted over a thousand responses from Car Design News' readers.
The Concept category was won by the Saab Aero X Concept: over 82% voters ranked it in the top three, and more than 50% ranked it in first place.
According to Brett Patterson, CDN's Editorial Director, the Saab Aero X won thanks to its "classic sports car proportions, innovative detailing, and dramatic single piece canopy".
The Aero X was also named "Concept Car of The Year" by Autocar Magazine back in November 2006.
The Production category was won by the Alfa Romeo 8C Competizione, with 73% of voters awarding it a place in the top three.
The Italian sportscar, created by the Alfa Romeo Styling Center under the direction of Wolfgang Egger, features a successful design, which combines elegance, inspiration from classic Alfa sports racing cars.

The Car Design of The Year Awards will be presented by Car Design News to Bryan Nesbitt, executive director GM Europe Design, and the Saab Aero X design team, and to Wolfgang Egger, head of design Alfa Romeo, and the 8C Competizione Design team, at the 2007 Geneva Motor Show on Tuesday 6th March.
