Daihatsu Car Design Competition

To celebrate its 10th anniversary Daihatsu has launched a car design competition, open to university students in their final year of study. The theme is "Small Cars for Years 2030 to 2050" and the registration deadline is 30th November.

"Daihatsu International Car Design Competition"

Applicants are asked to examine "new ideas that will make future lifestyles more pleasant and enjoyable" and propose a small car suitable for such future lifestyles.

The panel of judjes is composed by Masatsugu Arimoto (Design journalist), Akira Fujimoto (Chief Editor of Car Styling magazine), Hirofumi Ishizaki (General Manager of the Daihatsu Design Division) and Jun Nagata (Daihatsu Executive Officer).

The registration deadline has been extended from 31st October to 30th November 2006 (thanks Designer Techniques for the tip).

The submission deadline is 31st January 2007; design works will be examined in February, and results will be announced to individual applicants before the end of February.

Prizes

  • 1st Prize: ¥200,000 + trophy + internship
  • 2nd Prize (3 designers): ¥200,000 + trophy
  • 3rd Prize (5 designers): Set of markers

The main winner will be offered an internship at Daihatsu's Design Division and have an opportunity to work with Daihatsu designers.

Cash awards and other prizes will be sent to the winners upon consultation with the individual winners.
