Nissan has a long history of research in electric vehicles that dates back to its first electric car, the Tama EV, built in 1947.

In 1996 Nissan released the world’s first lithium-ion battery powered vehicle – the Prairie Joy Electric Vehicle.

"The challenge lies in developing advanced technological breakthroughs that could turn the electric vehicle into a viable and practical option for everyday consumers."

At the 2005 Tokyo Motor Show, Nissan revealed the Pivo concept vehicle, that utilises “drive-by-wire” technology and combines zero emissions with an efficient packaging.

In addition, Nissan has been working on non-core electric-powered technologies aimed at expanding the range of electric-powered solutions that can be incorporated into its current vehicle portfolio to benefit customers.

Nissan’s highlights at the EV22 feature the following vehicles:

Fitted with a newly-developed 70MPa high-pressure storage cylinder which increases the hydrogen storage capacity by approximately 30% compared to previous 35MPa cylinder, extending the cruising range to over 500km.

Micro UV

Nissan Micro UVAutech Japan developed the Micro UV sponsored by NEDO.

With the increase numbers of elderly drivers, this ultra-small electric vehicle is fitted with an active interface technology to support drivers with failing motor-ability and response-time that may impair their driving capability.
