The fourth generation of BMW’s open-top four-seater will adopt a three-piece electronically-operated retractable hard-top – a first for BMW - that can be operated in 22 seconds and that improves visibility by 38% compared to the outgoing model.
The boot capacity ranges from 210 to 350 liters depending on the position of the roof.
Another innovation is the world’s first Sun-Reflective Technology leather upholstery; thanks to special pigments embedded into the leather help reflect infra-red radiation, treated areas that are exposed to sunlight for a prolonged period can remain up to 20 degrees cooler compared to untreated leather.
The new BMW 3 Series Convertible will be sold starting from spring 2007 in two versions, 325i and 335i, both powered by direct injection engines with Bi-VANOS variable valve timing system (see table for specifications).
Both the 325i Convertible and the 335i Convertible come as standard with a six-speed manual gearbox. A new six-speed automatic transmission featuring steering wheel-mounted gearshift paddles can be choosen as an option.
Following the market launch, three further engines will be introduced: the 320i (170hp four-cylinder engine); the 330i (2,996cc 272hp 6 cylinder unit ) and the 330d (231hp diesel engine).
