The Istituto Europeo di Design, through its RSP Master in Transportation Design – work experience, has devised a new kind of training program that further expands the IED approach to training based on the encounter with sector professionals and the development of design skills, essential features that can enable the student to develop their abilities to the maximum and provide them with true competence.
The Master course aims to involve the students in an actual working environment, simulating the kind of team work that takes place in a professional studio equipped with all the most innovative computer aided tools. For each Course year, a Style Centre commissions the Istituto Europeo di Design of Turin to come up with a project for the development of a concept car.

Students from all over the world are required to interact and collaborate over the development of the project, like a real design team, dealing with all the different stages of development and the problems that a Design Centre must address, right up to the creation of a 1:1 scale model.
During the course of developing the project they will be confronted with all the different aspects related to the design of exteriors and interiors, ergonomics, vehicle architecture; they will also improve their technical abilities (Multimedia Design, Rhino, Alias, Modelling Clay, Rendering) and the students will also be confronted with very detailed market evaluations during the briefing stage and a great deal of effort will go into the preparation of the presentation materials.
The RSP Master in Transportation Design – work experience has been thought out as a the ideal supplement to the training received during the three year Transportation Design – Car Design course, yet it is also designed to welcome the student seeking to specialise in this area having followed a different study program.
The projects are developed based on a commission from leading automobile sector Companies so that the students may already experience a professional simulation during the teaching stages.
The commissioning companies take an active part in the course development through assessment and evaluation meetings, contact with the various company professionals and visits to the production sites.
In previous editions we have collaborated with: Centro Ricerche Fiat; Fiat Auto, Lancia.
The teaching staff is made up of sector professionals in the various areas of reference, that range from technical engineering to design and the applications of computer and telematic technology.
Companies that collaborate regularly with IED include Centro Stile Fiat Auto, Auto & Design, Bertone, Centro Stile Renault, Pininfarina Extra, Yamaha, Mitsubishi, Honda, Centro Ricerche Fiat.
