The GDT team (Gene Dickirson Team) has some 245 years of experience in the automotive engineering field. The Speedster is the result of a five-years workthat came from the initial concept to the final working vehicle.
The GDT Speedster is based on a 1994 Corvette C4, and is powered by a 300 hp LT 1 engine.
It will be auctioned online during the second quarter of 2006, and the revenue will support a future project.
A complete documentation of the GDT Speedster can be found on the official website: it includes a rich brochure in pdf format that offers a complete coverage of the vehicle development process.
The design sketches were created by Craig Sandvig and Larry Ronzi and led to the definitive 1:8 scale clay model. The final steel frame was created used rectangular section-profiles, using a 1:8 scale balsa wood model as a reference.
A full scale foam mock-up was then created to evaluate the design in its real proportions.
Then, the final clay model was scanned and turned into mathematical surfaces defined by point-clouds.
From these data, the definitive 3D model with "clean" and "smooth" surfaces was defined and used to mill the moulds for the fiberglass panels construction.
