Skoda has released the official pictures of its Roomster family car: even if the differences from the original concept are evident, it maintains the comfort-oriented philosophy and the long wheelbase layout.

Skoda RoomsterThe new Roomster is based on the Roomster Concept design study, unveiled by Skoda at Franfurt Motor Show in 2003.

Comparing the two "Roomsters", this production version has lost many of the stylistic features of the prototype: from the asymmetrical layout, to the twin sunroofs.

It has maintained the bold and "monolithic" appeal and the long wheelbase that enables a very good interior comfort.

Inside the cabin, the Roomster features a flexible rear seat design, named Varioflex.

The Skoda Roomster will be unveiled at the Geneva Motor Show and will go on sale starting from autumn 2006.

From the official Press Release:

Škoda Auto presents the first official pictures of the new Škoda Roomster, the brand’s fourth model line. Not only does the Roomster represent Škoda’s move into a new market segment, but also a new development stage as the century-old brand starts on its next hundred years.

The Roomster made its first appearance as a design study at the 2003 Frankfurt International Motor Show. In light of the positive response by the motoring press and customer interest, Škoda decided to develop the concept into a production car. After less than two and a half years, Škoda is now introducing its new Roomster to the public in Geneva.

The Roomster car concept is unique, with its variable interior and a young, fresh design. As usual with Škoda products, the Roomster impresses with excellent value for money, a vast luggage compartment and loads of storage space – Škoda’s "extra bit of car". The Roomster will also impress with its new Varioflex rear seat design which offers an easy method of re-arranging the passenger and carrying space to meet the ways that people use cars today.

Skoda Roomster profileThe side view of the Roomster is dynamic, while large windows underline ample interior spaciousness and light. Customers can choose their ideal engine from three petrol and three diesel powerplants combined with a selection of manual or automatic gearbox.

The Škoda Roomster will be manufactured at the company’s Kvasiny plant. The Roomster will be launched in many European markets, including the Czech Republic, beginning in the summer and autumn of 2006. The new Škoda Roomster will make its first public appearance at the International Motor Show in Geneva on 28 February 2006.
