Photoshop Car Rendering Tutorial
A visual tutorial by designer Michele Leonello that shows how to create a detailed and refined car rendering in Photoshop starting from a scanned sketch.
Michele Leonello, former designer at Alfa Romeo, has sent us a visual walkthrough that shows his workflow for creating a refined rendering in Photoshop starting from a handmade sketch and using digital airbrushes in combination with the Path tool.
Step 1-2 – Scanned sketch into Photoshop, grey background layer, shadows blocking, wheels placement
Step 3-4 – Tires highlights + body colors blocking
Step 5-6 – body and details masks refinement, basic DLOs color blocking
Step7-8 – Basic highlights and details with airbrushes and vector masks
Step 9-10 – Final highlights and details
About Michele Leonello
Michele Leonello is a professional transportation designer who worked at Centro Stile Alfa Romeo. Among his works are the Alfa Romeo MiTo and the New Giulietta.
He currently teaches at Milan-based SPD (Scuola Politecnica di Design) and runs his studio Leonello Design, offering automotive design services, including creative research, 3D virtual and physical modeling, full-scale model construction.
