Master Course description
The didactic activity is divided into 2 semesters.

During this semester, students will develop a simulated basic design theme.
The second semester will focus on the thesis development, and most teaching activities will be aimed at supporting the project, through revisions and classes on visual representation and rendering.
Parallel to the project will be a focus on sustainable mobility and a Portfolio and Design Management course, with the goal of preparing students to promote their projects and their professionalism.
During the academic year the Institute will arrange educational visits with style centers, museums and exhibitions, workshops and meetings with designers.
The IAAD Master is recognized by EABHES for the attainment of the European Master of Science in Design and is sponsored by ANFIA – National Association of Automotive Industries.
Thesis Project

In the first and second editions the thesis was developed in Collaboration with the Centro Ricerche Fiat and the Centro Stile Lancia.
For the 2011-2012 edition, IAAD has partnered with Italdesign Giugiaro, and the thesis project will be the design of Volkswagen Golf for cities in 2020, focused on the use of innovative technologies with low environmental impact.
The revisions and special meetings will see the participation of Fabrizio Giugiaro (Co-Chairman and Director, Italdesign Giugiaro Styling), Walter Da Silva (Head of Volkswagen Group Design), Alessandro Dambrosio (Head of Interbrand Design Design Volkswagen Konzern) and Filippo Perini (Head of Lamborghini Design).
Thesis Brief: the Golf of 2020

“The new model designed by Giorgetto Giugiaro and launched in 1974 proved to be revolutionary, unconventional and innovative with a great charge, becoming an icon, a point of reference throughout the automotive world.”
“Over the years they have been produced six sets of Golf with extraordinary sales success and over time it has become an increasingly mature product, a product that expresses strength and a lot of substance, even in terms of content security.
“The most important challenge we face today is the preserving environment and reducing emissions.”
“The theme of the partnership project between Italdesign Giugiaro and IAAD for the Master in Transportation Design 2011-2012 is to rethink the legendary Golf for cities in 2020 using new technologies with low environmental impact.”
Course philosophy

“The Course addresses the technological, manufacturing, environmental, ergonomic and marketing issues, promoting flexibility, management skills and aptitude to team-working. The aim is to unite the industry, the research and experimentation through the study of projects supported by the industry itself.”

“Bachelor and Master students must consider their being European citizens, reflecting the will of reaching an international dimension, being involved at a communitarian level and giving proof of their adaptation and mobility skills. Having a European Study Qualification, becoming a designer and knowing two languages will allow the students to travel and work all over Europe and worldwide.”
About the IAAD
The Istituto d’Arte Applicata e Design was the first Italian school to activate a specific and targeted training in the Transportation Design. The Department of Transportation Design was founded in Turin in 1978 and since 2008 is named in memory of Andrea Pininfarina.
The educational offer of the Department of Transportation Design includes two three-year courses – Bachelor of Science in Design majoring in “Transportation Design” and a further step of specialization with the European Master of Science in Design – majoring in “Transportation Design”.
In 2010 IAAD has also introduced a 1st level academic degree in “Design of Sustainable Mobility and Transportation Means”.

italdesign !!! love it !!!
The vehicle on the IAD poster looks suspiciously like a Pinky Lai creation from the late 1980’s!
