Matt Kohr explains the basics of Digital Painting
Concept artist Matt Kohr has teamed up with Life Hacker to create a digital painting guide for beginners, which teaches the basic tools and techniques for drawing and rendering in Photoshop.
Matt Kohr is a concept artist who graduated from the Savannah College of Art and Design with a BFA in Sequential Art. He has been involved in the development of several videogames released for the X-Box, PS3 and Wii platforms.
He recently founded ctrl+Paint, a website dedicated to providing tutorials and resources for digital painters.
The website features many exclusive, high quality video tutorials that explain different techniques and tools for working in Photoshop.
As Matt himself explains, ctrl+Paint is different from many other tutorial-websites because it provides “a more ‘foundational’ resource. The videos on Ctrl+Paint will focus on basic principles and techniques that can be applied to your artwork.”
In the Downloads section, ctrl+Paint also offers some free downloads, such as brush sets and textures.
Matt has also partnered with Life Hacker online magazine to create the ‘Digital Painting 101′ guide for beginners, that teaches the very first steps to painting digitally in Photoshop.
There are five articles available on Life Hacker – the following video is included in the first one.
Below you can find the second video, which discusses the brush and eraser tools.
To watch the following episodes as well as the other videos tutorials you can visit ctrl+Paint, the Digital Painting 101 page or watch the videos in HD on ctrl+Paint’s YouTube Channel.
